American boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is facing legal trouble in Las Vegas after prosecutors filed two felony charges linked to allegations that he wrote a bad check to purchase a luxury watch from a designer resale business.
According to court records, the former world champion was scheduled for an initial court appearance on Monday in Las Vegas Justice Court. Although Mayweather did not attend in person, legal representation appeared on his behalf during the proceedings.
The case has now been scheduled for another hearing in September as legal proceedings continue.
Mayweather, 49, was officially charged in April with felony theft and drawing and passing a check without sufficient funds with alleged intent to defraud.
According to the criminal complaint filed by prosecutors in Clark County, the allegations stem from a December 2024 transaction involving luxury resale company Gold and Beyond in Las Vegas.
Authorities claim that Mayweather issued a check worth $200,000 through Wells Fargo Bank as payment for a luxury watch purchase despite allegedly not having sufficient funds available in the account at the time.
The accusations have attracted major attention due to Mayweather’s reputation as one of boxing’s wealthiest and most successful athletes.
Known by fans as “Money Mayweather,” the retired champion built his global brand around financial success, luxury living, and an undefeated professional boxing career.
However, this latest legal challenge arrives amid reports of additional disputes involving the former fighter.
Mayweather has reportedly also been involved in legal proceedings in New York connected to allegations of unpaid rent involving a Manhattan apartment.
Separate reports have additionally linked him to ongoing financial disagreements involving multiple jewelry businesses.
At the same time, the boxing star previously initiated legal action against a former business manager, alleging a long-running fraud scheme connected to financial management matters.
As of now, no verdict has been reached regarding the Las Vegas allegations, and the charges remain accusations that will be addressed through the court process.
