Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the former governor of Ekiti State, has announced that National and State Assembly members will not be given automatic return tickets for the 2027 elections. He made the statement during an APC stakeholders’ meeting in his hometown of Isan Ekiti on Thursday evening.
Fayemi urged lawmakers to return to their constituencies and work for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s re-election. He commended Oyebanji for his excellent performance, particularly in areas like appointments. “If we continue to support him, Ekiti people will accept him,” Fayemi added.
The former governor emphasized that lawmakers must earn their political support by working in their districts. “There is no automatic ticket for our lawmakers,” he said. He also explained that decisions about their future would be based on the feedback from their local leaders.
Fayemi addressed the ongoing rumors about tensions between him and Oyebanji. He assured the public that he was committed to supporting Oyebanji. “I am not a leader that will work and come back to destroy it,” Fayemi stated.
He also commented on the upcoming Ekiti governorship election. Many are calling for Oyebanji’s re-election, but Fayemi pointed out that some people who had opposed him in 2022 are now supporting his return. He welcomed their return but reminded them of the support Oyebanji had received from the party’s original supporters.
Fayemi concluded by reaffirming that President Muhammadu Buhari also supports Governor Oyebanji’s leadership and re-election.
