In a significant development, the Anambra State House of Assembly has officially passed the N607 billion 2025 budget into law, marking a crucial step in Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts to drive growth and development in the state. The budget, which was initially presented by the governor on November 19, was passed after a proposal from the Majority Leader of the House, Ikenna Ofodeme, and subsequent deliberations.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Dr. Somto Udeze, hailed the passage of the budget as a testament to the strong partnership between the legislative and executive arms of government. He expressed optimism that the achievements of the outgoing budget, which had been implemented to the tune of 80%, would be carried forward into the new fiscal year. Udeze also urged residents to continue supporting the government, emphasizing the importance of paying taxes to sustain development initiatives.
In a post-budget briefing, Mr. Ejike Okechukwu, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, clarified that the budget remained unchanged in terms of its total size, but there were realignments within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to better address urgent needs. Okechukwu revealed that 23% of the budget would be allocated to recurring expenses, with the remaining 77% directed towards capital expenditure, signaling a strong focus on infrastructure and long-term projects.
The budget also saw increases in allocations for educational institutions like Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and Nwafor Orizu College of Education, which will receive more funds to support their operations. This move highlights the state’s commitment to improving education and creating a sustainable future for its citizens. With the budget now in place, Anambra’s path toward further economic growth and infrastructural development looks more promising than ever.
