Anglican Bishop James Odedeji described the birth of Jesus Christ as the most remarkable and transformative event in human history. On Wednesday, at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Cathedral Church in Ikeja, Lagos, Odedeji delivered a powerful homily on the theme, “The Blessing of His Birth.”
Citing historical and scriptural references, the bishop emphasized the unmatched importance of Jesus’ birth. He highlighted that philosophers and theologians have recognized the event as pivotal to humanity’s history. Odedeji reminded the congregation that Jesus’ birth fulfilled prophecies made over 700 years earlier, showcasing the unwavering reliability of God’s promises.
“The birth of Jesus is not just an event; it fulfills divine prophecy,” Odedeji stated. “It proves that God’s promises for His people will come to pass, no matter how long it takes. His arrival reconciled humanity with its Creator, ensuring none of us remain lost.”
Odedeji elaborated on the spiritual blessings tied to Jesus’ birth. He explained that the name of Jesus holds divine authority, offering salvation, peace, and victory over evil.
“Scripture assures us that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. His name embodies God’s authority, driving away darkness and bringing salvation,” Odedeji said. “True peace exists only in Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Any peace outside of Him is shallow and fleeting.”
The bishop urged believers to form a personal relationship with Jesus Christ to access the blessings His birth signifies. He encouraged them to embrace rebirth through faith, obedience to the Holy Spirit, and unwavering trust in God.
“Faith is crucial. Without it, you cannot receive God’s best,” Odedeji advised. “Submission to the Holy Spirit and steadfast belief in God unlock the blessings of Jesus’ birth.”
Odedeji concluded by highlighting how Jesus’ birth redeemed humanity from sin, providing hope and purpose to a lost world. He called on Christians to reflect on the profound impact of this event and live in gratitude and faith.
